Hewitt High School (6)

Is actually Hewitt-Trussville High School

Located in Trussville, Alabama

10-12 grade 889 students, primarily white

About 18 miles outside of Birmingham

From browsing their website it seems like a very typical mid-size suburban high school with a variety of extra curricular activities but isn’t famous for an any sort of achievements.

Comments on the new Hewitt-Trussville High School Building (2008)

I have met the Trussvillians’ pompous attitude too, but they aren’t the whole town. Most are just people who want a better way of life. Good schools are important to all of us, they generate our future in the kids who pass through them. It’s entirely possible that my grandchildren will go to this school, and I’d like to know they got the best education possible.Better to spend the money on this than a stupid dome that will sit empty, or fountains no one will ever see! Birmingham closes schools and gives public school children short shrift, that’s why those who don’t flee to Hoover go to Trussville!”

Trussville folk: 90K income(or less), live like 250K income!”

Not sure where previous quote was getting those figures for income. Might want to check demographics comparison for other cities with private school systems in our area. We have had a big influx of residents in the last two years (last level of income calculated in 2006, to best of my knowlede). Change is good. Change is inevitable to grow. The last high school did get many miles of usage for education, and is still going strong. We are proud of our town and are striving for the best education we can give our children, while still maintaining a “small town” atmosphere.”

Huffman High School (6)

97% African American, 2% Caucasian

Grades 9-12, enrollment 1,309

Birmingham, Alabama, Public Magnet School

From my reading Huffman seems to be a poorer school, most students are on free or reduced lunch program. Still excels in certain state activities despite the lack of money.

Two comments from Local School Directory.com

I think that the school is a dump. The teachers play around more than the children. Some of them get mad when you need help because they expect you to get it right away. some of the teachers show favoritism. The teachers gossip more than the children.”
