You either have a male tree, or if it is a female, there are no male trees anywhere around to fertilize it. Only female trees produce fruit. Male flowers appear in groups of three, and female trees have single flowers. The flowers are very small, and you probably could not see them on such a big tree. I would suggest planting a couple more of each sex., just to be sure they will flower after4 or 5 years.

In regard to her play "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter"; rather than offending a whole community by 'using a white actor in blackface', why not use a Deaf actor with a voice interpreter? In the book, John Singer expresses himself with Sign Language; think of how much more beautiful and poetic the play would be with the monologue signed in ASL!

Read the NYT article about Ms. Gilman's problem with
deaf actors and her play, "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter." A possible solution for future productions: cast a deaf actor but have the opening and closing dialogue pre-recorded and played back to the audience as the deaf actor signs on stage.

I wanted to invite you to visit my blog. I am a 41 year old mother of three, and grandmother of two. I am the oldest daughter of a mother who had me at 17, and I was also a teen mother at 17, along with my sister at 19. My oldest daughter had her firstborn at 19, and just had a son this year.

I am in the process of starting a blog for parents of teen mothers, as a support and help. I came across your site, and wanted to say thanks for commenting on this very important issue for our youth today.

Agreed - Miller's use of language in SALESMAN is nothing short of brilliant. Personally, I'm a sucker for the political issues kicking underneath the surface in CRUCIBLE, but if I was directing it I think I'd have less yelling than the punctuation suggests.

Anyone else have a favorite? Thanks, Lindsay!

'Death of A Salesman' remains one of my favourite plays. Every playwright should study it for the way Miller uses, twirls, twists and turns the language. The Crucible? Not so much. Too many exclamation marks...
