Pearl Cleage nominated for 2 Image Awards

It turns out I’m not the only one knocked out by Pearl Cleage’s work - she’s been nominated for 2 NAACP Image Awards for her fiction and her poetry.
Baby Brother’s Blues is nominated for Outstanding Literary Work in the fiction category, and We Speak Your Names is nominated in the poetry category.
The award ceremony takes place Friday, March 2 at 7 pm Chicago time, and you can watch it on Fox.

Cool–We Speak Your Names was the poem she read at Oprah’s Legends Luncheon a year or two ago–at least, she started and a bunch of other took turns doing parts of it in tribute to the Legends. It was a really moving piece…
